Un-Clutter It Thursday #7 - My Pantry

Good day to ya! Welcome to the seventh edition of Un-Clutter It Thursday. This week we're taking a peek into my pantry.

Living in a 1920's home, where almost every room has all the original features, can make for a clutter nightmare. When we first moved in that was certainly the case in the kitchen, but as time has passed I've been slowly figuring out how to work with the space that I have. Take the pantry for instance, when the house was built, it was the ice box. Actually, it still has the mesh vent on the back wall for the air flow (even though it has been covered with wood on the opposite side.) To know the history of the space is pretty cool. What isn't so cool is the size and how much unusable space there is.

Let me show you... It's tucked in the corner and the opening is very skinny. The door measures a whopping 14 inches wide. I say the door because the interior measures a whole 21 inches. So that leaves me 7 inches that is awkwardly hidden.

And check out the wasted space above the top shelf. Unfortunately, it can't be accessed because the door doesn't go all the way to ceiling. I could easily add two more shelves to store appliances.

So working within the confines of the space let's open up my skinny pantry. There are a total of five built-in shelves. I guess the one saving grace i,s the shelves are deep. (Hmm... but now that I think about it I guess that could actually work against me, since it has the potential for thing to "get lost" in the back.)

Shall we take a closer look? The top shelf has all breakfast items. In the basket is everything we need for yummy waffles. Notice something behind the cereal?

The shelf is deep enough to hold some of my most used cookbooks.

Next, is Mr. Uncluttered's favorite shelf. Call it his go-to-section. Everything on this row is self-help. Notice the "Just Add H2O" basket... it's his favorite! The contents only requires water and a microwave. And he's in there! Below the shelf riser, is the snack basket. It'is an old fryer basket. Two days ago it was full to the brim with delicious snackies. Mr. Uncluttered attacked it, very hard apparently, because it's looking quite bare. Oh and did I mention that he doesn't cook?

In the vintage enamel tea and dry goods can is hiding... wait for it...  my tea and lemonade packets. Shocker, right! (Had to throw something vintage in there somewhere.)

On the door on the top is a clipboard to write down items that we have run out of.  And on the bottom door there is a holder for all our plastic bags.

There very bottom shelf is where the onions and potatoes are stored. The bins are from the Dollar Store, love that place. Also extra paper towels and bottles of water.

There we have it, folks! Organization for our skinny pantry.

Next week we are still in the kitchen. Looking at cupboard and drawer organization.

Have you organized your pantry? Leave me a comment with the link I'd love to feature some during the week.

Till next time...
