Skirting An Issue In The Kitchen

As I prepare to show more storage solutions in the kitchen on Thursday, I can't help but think about the major issue I have been avoiding on the outside of the cabinets... painting.

Painting is something that I normally don't avoid. In fact, I enjoy painting and have painted most of the surfaces in the kitchen, even the beadboard. But for some reason the thought of painting the cabinets in picture below is... well, daunting. Sigh. (This is what the kitchen looked like when the previous tenants were moving out. She's a beauty, right! If you squint really hard you can see the potential.)

The cabinets are 1950s Youngstown Kitchen metal cabinets (not original to the house) and already have at least two layers of paint on them. Now they're chipped and rusting in certain spots. Can we say eyesore? But still, normally I'll tackle any project that comes my way. Not this time though. Why the hesitation? Deep down I know, to properly paint them, it would be quite an involved and drawn out process. A process that I'm not up for. So I've been thinking of something to do that will cover up the issue at hand. Finally I thought... why not skirt the issue?

I have been pinning some of these skirted beauties as inspiration ever since.

Can this be my vintage kitchen, please?!

You can't see the whole skirt, but you know it would be cute if you could!

Yes, I know this is just a sink skirt but I really adore this kitchen.

What do you think, should I skirt the issue?

Till next time!
